1964 - Country singer Jim Reeves was killed in a plane crash when the single-engine airplane he was flying in from Arkansa to Nashville crashed in thick fog.  The 41-year old singer was the first country singer to cross over to the pop market.

1971 - John Lowery, guitarist for Marilyn Manson is born.

1971 - A security guard was stabbed to death at a concert by the Who at Forest HIlls Stadium, New York.

1990 - Brent Mydland of the Grateful Dead was found dead on the floor of his home from a drug overdose.  He was 38.

1992 - “The First Lady of Motown” Mary Wells died of laryngeal cancer at the age of 49.  She was forced to quit her musical career and had no health insurance.  Her Motown friends and many others in the field personally donated to help with medical costs.

1958 - Rock & roll music fans were warned that listening to the radio in the car could cost you money.  Researchers at Esso found that the rhythm of rock and roll music could cause you to have a heavy foot on the gas pedal thus using more gas in the car.

1968 - Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees collapsed just as the group was preparing to leave on their first US tour.  He was diagnosed with nervous exhaustion.

1976 - After a 4-year legal battle, John Lennon was issued his green card allowing him permanent residence in the US.

1990 - Bobby Day (”Rockin Robin”) dies of  cancer and a stomach hemorrhage.

2001 - Leon Wilkeson bass player for Lynryd Skynrd was found dead in a hotel room in Florida at the age of 49.
