1977 - Henri Padovani, guitarist with the group after nine months leaving the group as a trio.

1985 - Syu Sakamoto died when JAL flight 123 crashed and burned on a thickly wooded mountain about 60 miles out of  Tokyo.  He had the hit “Sukiyaki” and was the first Japanese artist to hit the top of the US singles chart.

2004 - A Fender Stratocaster that Eric Clapton nicknamed “Blackie” sold for $959,500 at a Christie’s auction making it the most expensive guitar in the world.  Clapton donated the proceeds to Clapton’s Crossroads addiction clinic founded in 1998.
